Meet the Team
Derrick McCarthy has been with McCarthy Group for over three decades. He started as an Assistant Account Manager and has been the President and CEO of McCarthy Group since 2007. He really enjoys working with customers to provide solutions to problems, and meet their needs. He also enjoys being able to build a team he is proud of and likes to work with.
Fun Fact: Derrick loves martial arts. He is currently learning Tae Kwon Do with his kids.
Marcin Turek began his journey with McCarthy Group in 2011, and currently serves as the Corporate Sales Manager. He is very passionate about the automotive industry and is a car and design enthusiast. That's part of why he loves his job.
Fun Fact: Marcin has been mistaken for Captain America more than once.
Janice Roush has been with the McCarthy Group for long enough that she won't tell you exactly when she started. You never ask a woman's age! She lives on Michigan's east side and is married with one adult son. She loves that every day when she comes to work it is a new chance to make long term relationships.
Fun Fact: Janice is proud to have done a half-marathon and raised more than $3,000 for 60 children and their families to have clean water through World Vision.
Yury Rey is the sales liaison for McCarthy Group in Mexico. He is based in Mexico City and is the first response contact when a customer in Mexico needs assistance. Being an Industrial Engineer he finds it easier to help customers find appropriate materials for their processes. Yury has been with McCarthy Group since 2017, but has been closely associated with it for many years.
Fun fact: The name "Yury" is masculine, but a female artist is Mexico called herself Yuri, so Yury finds it funny that many people think he is a woman until they meet him.
Tony Bono is a people person. He enjoys being a Key Account Manager because it allows him to do what he loves, connecting with and helping humans. In turn, they help him accomplish his goals. Tony comes from a long history of supply chain and purchasing experiences for both big and small companies. This experience helps him understand what our customers and partner companies are looking for and how he can help make them successful. Tony has been with the McCarthy Group for more than three and a half years, learning and experiencing new things everyday! The thing Tony likes most about his job is that it's a new adventure each day. He gets to meet new people and challenges wherever they may be, allowing him to travel and see the world.
Fun Fact: Tony is a drummer and spent much of the late 80s performing most weekends in a "big hair" rock band with his younger brother and best buddies. Rock on!
Amy Andersen has worked for McCarthy Group for five years as Derrick's Executive Assistant. She loves her job and says the best part is learning new things. Each day is different. Her co-workers feel like family, and make each day great.
Fun fact: Amy was born and raised in Jenison, Michigan, though some people tell her she has an accent that sounds like she's from Minnesota. She's never even been there! If you meet her, she wants to know, do you think she has an accent?
Laura Carr has been a part of the McCarthy Group team for more than ten years. She has worn numerous hats, and currently works in Finance, Human Resources, and Customer Service. What Laura likes most about working for McCarthy Group is the warm family atmosphere. The team really does feel like a family.
Fun Fact: Laura believes her greatest achievement is her children and grandkids, who can make a challenging day fun.
Ben Schipper serves as the customer service and marketing lead for McCarthy Group. He has worked for McCarthy Group for almost 4 years. Ben grew up on his family’s farm and still sells beef for it. He also coaches varsity girls basketball at Martin High School, and is involved in his church. His favorite part of working at McCarthy Group is being able to work with customers to provide solutions to their challenges.
Fun Fact: He knows it's a controversial topic, but Ben isn't afraid to admit he loves Hallmark movies.
Mackenzie Brefka is part of the McCarthy Group team in the role of Customer Service and Sales Support. She began working for the company in 2020 after more than seven years as a journalist in Grand Rapids. She loves meeting and working with people, and it was the people at McCarthy Group who first drew her to this job. Those people are still her favorite part.
Fun fact: There are very few days that Mackenzie doesn’t eat something chocolate. Very few.
Mike Shinabery is one of the newest members of the McCarthy Group team. He oversees and maintains the Grand Rapids warehouse and enjoys the challenge of working in a living warehouse and fulfilling customer orders. He is proud of his competitive nature and being part of a great team
Fun fact: Mike is a member of a competitive speed shooting team called "Team Match Tracker".
